LOST AND FOUND The identities of stolen handsets uploaded to local EIR databases are uploaded to a central database hosted by the GSM Association (the Central Equipment Identity Register or CEIR). The GSMA is also poised to extend and upgrade the functionality and scalability of its central database. In addition, many operators have wanted to report as stolen the phones that they gave out to customers tied to long term service contract. Competing operator did not want to treat these phones as stolen. There is also the problem of Saturday week end theft. People lose their phones over the week end, report them as stolen but find them on Monday or Tuesday. Dealing with these cases is time consuming and costly. via Mobil Monday
